Alina grew up in a small German village in Brandenburg and spent her childhood in a Waldorf school. It was the perfect place for her, as she never had to choose between her passion for art and her love of science – a combination that still fuels her work today. Even as a young child, she decided: „I’m going to study acting in England!“ and in her determined way, she went straight for it (apart from a physics focus in her A-levels): not only did she say yes to every opportunity at school, but she also acted in various TV productions as a child. At 16, she was finally old enough to join the theatre in the next town. It wasn’t long before she took on far more responsibility and not only organised rehearsals, but also wrote her first long play called „Progress“ and helped bring it to the stage. And it was then that she realised that she didn’t just want to be a canvas for other people’s visions and made what she saw as a radical shift in course: she would not study acting in England but performance in Scotland.
Alina ist in einem kleinen deutschen Dorf in Brandenburg aufgewachsen und hat ihre Kindheit in einer Waldorfschule verbracht. Für sie war das ein perfekter Ort, da sie sich dort nie zwischen ihrer Leidenschaft für Kunst und ihrer Liebe zu Wissenschaft entscheiden musste – eine Kombination, die noch heute ihre Arbeit befeuert. Schon als kleines Kind beschloss sie: „Ich werde mal Schauspiel in England studieren!“ und in ihrer zielstrebigen Art ging sie gradlinig (abgesehen eines Physik-Schwerpunkts im Abitur) darauf zu: nicht nur sagte sie in der Schule zu jeder Gelegenheit ja, sondern spielte als Kind in diversen TV-Produktionen mit. Mit 16 war sie dann endlich alt genug, um dem Theater in der nächsten Stadt beizutreten. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis sie weit mehr Verantwortung übernahm und nicht nur Proben organisierte, sondern ihre erstes langes Stück namens „Fortschritt“ schrieb und mit auf die Bühne brachte. Und da merkte sie, dass sie nicht nur die Leinwand für die Visionen anderer sein wollte und traf eine aus ihrer Sicht radikale Kursänderung: sie würde nicht Schauspiel in England sondern Performance in Schottland studieren.
Alina now holds a BA in Drama & Performance and an MA in Arts & Social Practice and is currently working on her PhD in Creative Practice in the Arts. A lot has changed, but the basic vision of telling stories that lead to empathy and connection with other people and nature has remained.
Inzwischen hat Alina einen BA in Drama & Performance und einen MA in Arts & Social Practice und arbeitet momentan an ihrer Doktorarbeit in Creative Practice in the Arts. Vieles hat sich verändert, doch die Grundvision, Geschichten zu erzählen, die zu Empathie und Verbundenheit mit anderen Menschen und der Natur führen, ist geblieben.

She is constantly learning about herself and about her art. The development away from bringing dystopias to the stage and towards real utopias and the beauty of real people has been a long process. The longing for big stages has also transformed into an appreciation of intimacy, to art in public places as well as the very small, such as in a pillow fort. And her art has long since ceased to be just theatre, but also words, movement, music, attention, even love. This love, which is sometimes almost too intense for her, is also accompanied by anger and frustration – at a patriarchal system in which it is so difficult for gentleness to take its place.
Sie lernt kontinuierlich, über sich selbst und über ihre Kunst. Ein langer Prozess war die Entwicklung weg davon, Dystopien auf die Bühne zu bringen und sich Realutopien und der Schönheit von echten Menschen zuzuwenden. Auch die Sehnsucht nach großen Bühnen hat sich in eine Wertschätzung von Intimität gewandelt, zu Kunst an öffentlichen Orten wie zum ganz Kleinen, wie beispielsweise in einer Deckenhöhle. Und ihre Kunst ist schon lange nicht mehr nur das Schauspiel, sondern auch Worte, Bewegung, Musik, Aufmerksamkeit, gar Liebe. Diese Liebe, die ihr manchmal fast zu intensiv ist, ist auch von Wut und Frustration begleitet – auf ein patriachalisches System, in dem es für Sanftheit so schwer ist, ihren Platz einzunehmen.
Alina tends to respond to every opportunity with a resounding yes. As a result, she published a children’s book at the age of 17, worked as an alien on the street, examined dentists as a pretend patient, whispered to passers-by as a bear in a shopping centre, sat in books for photographers and took part in many pro bono productions for film and stage (since she was 11). Saying yes has also led her to her other passion: Creating places in public spaces where people feel safe and seen. She was the co-owner of a vegan cafe in Inverness and is now working in Nairn to develop The Highland Weigh into more than just a cafe and unpackaged shop.
Alina tendiert dazu, auf jede Gelegenheit mit einem klaren Ja zu antworten. Dadurch hat sie schon mit 17 ein Kinderbuch veröffentlicht, als Alien auf der Straße gearbeitet, Zahnärzt:innen als gespielte Patientin geprüft, als Bär in einem Einkaufszentrum mit Passant:innen getuschelt, für Fotografen in Büchern gesessen und in vielen pro bono Produktionen für Film und Bühne mitgewirkt (seit sie 11 ist). Das Jasagen hat sie auch zu ihrer weiteren Leidenschaft geführt: Orte im öffentlichen Raum gestalten, in denen Menschen sich sicher und gesehen fühlen. So war sie zunächst Mitbesitzerin eines veganen Cafes in Inverness und arbeitet jetzt in Nairn mit daran, dass sich das The Highland Weigh nicht nur als Cafe und Unverpackt-Laden entwickelt.
